Check out this email for lots of details about the upcoming summit.
First one note: Friday welcome party is canceled
Check out our schedule for more. A small amount of printed schedules will be available at the summit, but to conserve paper a digital program will be available soon online in addition to the schedule: http://midwesturbanfarmers.org/schedule-2/
When and Where
Where — NOTE!!: This year we will be at the NEW Plant Chicago Location: 4459 S. Marshfield, Chicago, IL 60609 Entrance is in the rear off the alley.
Street parking is available.
Public Transportation: Plant Chicago is closest to the Ashland bus #9 (get off at Ashland and 45th and walk one block west) or the 47th bus #47 (get off at Ashland and 47th, walk two blocks north and one block west).
What to Bring:
Eating and Drinking Supplies – Please bring along with your own service-ware. By bringing your own bowl, mug, and flatware, you will help free up our kitchen volunteers to participate in more of the summit’s activities as well as save waste on the disposable supplies.
Seed Swap – There will be a table to swap away. If you have any viable seeds you don’t plan on using to bring them along.
Job Listings/Resource Board Materials There will be space to share any opportunities with other summit participants. Bring any you find fitting along.
Soil Sample -There will be a portable X-ray fluorescence machine at the resource fair, which can test for heavy metals in 30 seconds. For best results, bring a dry sample in a clear plastic zipper bag (2 cups). Up to 5 soil samples per individual will be screened. And we know the weather is not conducive to gathering a sample, so if you can’t bring one now, it’ll be a great chance to connect around when you can have it tested moving forward.
Potluck contribution (if you want) – Saturday Lunch is the official scheduled potluck, and you’re welcome to bring food along to share to any of the meals. While we have been hustling for weeks to secure food donations and are going to be preparing and serving meals and snacks throughout the weekend, we would also love to taste some of the ways you like to feed people. Remember to label your food for dietary restrictions and your containers so you will get them back.
Drop-In Design Lab Questions Ehi Aimiuwu of Geek Empowered will be available all day Sunday to answer your questions and assist with any questions you have about websites, social media, or any type of digital design work you’re looking to reach people with your work.
